CONNECT MORE with Cable Matters® USB-C™ Hub Multiport Adapters
Why is USB C better?
USB C on a notebook can support multiple functions over a single USB-C port. One or two USB-C ports can replace the 5 or more ports found on older model laptops.
USB-C technology incorporates alternate modes to carry non-USB signals. DP Alt Mode must be supported on the USB C port of a smartphone, tablet or computer to view video over USB C. Depending on your equipment, a USB C port can support transferring files, charging, connecting to the Internet, and adding external storage or a video display.

Many laptop models support two external monitors. Check the specifications of your device to verify that it can support dual monitors over USB-C.
Cable Matters offers two dual monitor adapter models:
USB C Hub Multiport Adapter with Dual 4K DisplayPort

Can USB C support 4K?
The maximum video resolution of a USB-C multiport adapter is determined by:
Video resolution output of the smartphone or computer
Video resolution supported by the connected display
Type of display interface technology that supports 4K (HDMI and DisplayPort)
Cable Matters has a selection of USB C Hub Multiport Adapters with 4K HDMI and 4K DisplayPort.
What is USB C Power Delivery? (PD)
The USB-IF organization specifies power profiles for safely powering and charging a smartphone, laptop, monitor or other equipment. Safely power and charge a device from 7.5 to 100 watts over USB C.
Cable Matters offers 60W and 100W USB C Multiport Adapters.
Will USB C work in a Thunderbolt port?
Thunderbolt™ 3 uses the same reversible USB C connector for data, video and charging. Thunderbolt 3 ports can support 20Gbps or 40Gbps. A USB-C port supports a maximum data transfer rate of 5Gbps (Gen 1) or 10Gbps (Gen2).
Most USB-C multiport adapters are compatible with a Thunderbolt computer. Thunderbolt devices are NOT compatible with a USB C computer. All Cable Matters USB C multiport adapters are Thunderbolt 3 port compatible with Windows® or Mac® computers. Some models of Cable Matters USB C dual display adapters are limited to a single display with Mac® computers.
