Mini DisplayPort
The Mini DisplayPort is a miniaturized version of the DisplayPort interface. It was first used by Apple in revisions of the MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro notebooks, iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro desktops, Xserve servers, and 24-inch Apple Cinema Display since October 14, 2008. It was later adopted by Toshiba in its Satellite Pro S500, Tecra M11, A11, and S11 notebooks and also by HP in its Envy 14 and 17 notebooks. On 13 April 2010, Apple added support for audio output using Mini DisplayPort in their MacBook Pro product line. The change in the Mini DisplayPort ports on Apple MacBook Pro notebooks will make connecting a MacBook Pro to an HDTV a little easier.
With a suitable adapter, Mini DisplayPort may be used to drive displays with a VGA, DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort interfaces. Cable Matters provides Mini DisplayPort to VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort adapters as well as cables.
On November 10, 2009, VESA officially announced that the Mini DisplayPort has been adopted. All devices using the Mini DisplayPort must comply with the 1.1a standard. On some non-compliant Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapters, the audio signal may not be passed to the HDMI device. All of Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters and cables carried by Cable Matters are 1.1a standard and transmits audio signal.
